1935 Marx, Dick Tracy Siren Police Pistol in Original Box

1935 Marx, Dick Tracy Siren Police Pistol in Original Box

Magnificent example of one of the most difficult to find of all early comic character pistols. This Dick Tracy Siren Police Pistol is in immaculate near mint to mint condition and complete with its very scarce original box. Even the box is in amazing condition.

Pistol is a heavy gauge pressed steel with ultra high gloss baked red enamel finish. A three piece lithoed steel siren makes a high pitched "whirring" noise when the trigger is squeezed. The same siren was used on several of Marx's motorcycle toys. Large color portrait decal of Tracy on the left grip accompanied by a facsimile signature from Chester Gould. The trigger is polished steel. Works great!

Awesome original box features a full panel comic illustration of Tracy with pistol raised. Tess Truehart, the Chief, and others look on. Off to the side it shows five more cops coming to the rescue. A word balloon above Tracy's head says, "Pull the trigger and call all cars". Side panels show Tracy on one end and the bad guys on the other. The toy was licensed in 1934 and sold through the 1935 Fall/Winter Sears catalog for 25¢.

As rare as this toy is, it's the first one I've ever seen in red. Until now I never knew it existed. I've only seen it previously in black enamel. Greenberg's Guide to Marx toys vol.1 indicates that only black examples were known. At the time of publishing no previous sale of the pistol with the original box was recorded.
